Orientation of artistic endeavors

Norbert Grebmer's artistic creation began in the post-war period. For him, painting and drawing was a constant confrontation with emotions, thoughts and formal concerns. Grebmer trained his eye on the tradition of art. He knew that "seeing" and "knowing" cannot be separated, and he did not hesitate to experiment in order to find a suitable form of expression. In this way he created a language in which perception, feeling and poetry are combined. You can also feel a lively exchange of ideas with role models in his work, such as the Expressionists on the one hand and the Cubists on the other. Pablo Picasso, Paul Klee and Emil Nolde are painters whose art he dealt with particularly in depth. Grebmer used the picture surface to subjectively define and interpret impressions triggered by a model, an object or a landscape. In depicting a human figure, the personality of a tree, the uniqueness of a landscape or the appearance of an architecture, he tried to bring the essence of the object into harmony with his momentary experience. In striving to uncover the actual core of what was seen, he made use of an object representation that was free of any paraphrase, sometimes greatly reduced. The subject of his work was not the external appearance of things, but their inner reality, which he recognized.
